Clay Court Resurfacing & Top Dressing
R&J Tennis resurfaces and top dresses clay tennis courts in Sarasota, Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch, and nearby Southwest Florida communities. Some courts mainly need fresh material; others need more work to bring the surface back.
Full Resurfacing
Full resurfacing is for a court that needs more than fresh material. Uneven levels, built-up material, worn areas, and the condition of the lines all affect how much work is involved.
The work can include cleaning the surface, correcting high and low spots, adding new material, and attention to the lines. Every court is different, so your estimate spells out what is included for yours.
Top Dressing
Top dressing adds fresh clay-court material to replenish the playing surface. Rain, watering, wind, and play gradually move or wash away material, especially on sprinkler-watered courts.
Preparing the court matters as much as the new material. Low areas, loose buildup, and line height all affect the result. Top dressing on its own will not correct drainage or problems below the surface.
Which Option Fits Your Court?
It depends on the court's condition, not just its age. Top dressing replenishes the surface; full resurfacing adds preparation and correction. The two can overlap, so your estimate, not the service name, shows exactly what is included.

Signs Your Court Needs Attention
- The surface looks thin, or material has piled up in places.
- Low spots or uneven areas, especially where play is heaviest.
- Lines sit high, curl, or are hard to see.
- Water stays in the same spots after rain.
A wide photo of the court and a close-up of the problem area are a big help. You can email them after sending the form.
Caring for the Court Afterward
Clay courts still need regular brushing, watering, and rolling where the court system calls for it. Ask Rigo or Jose about care and when the court can be played on after the work.
